Cuban biotech firm boosts agriculture products ? Cuba Standard ...

Cuban state company Labiofam added four manufacturing plants this year that are expected to crank out 1,700 tons of bio-plaguicides and bio-fertilizers, Granma reported.

Grupo Empresarial?Labiofam?expects to manufacture 1,280 tons of bio-insecticides and 470 tons of bio-stimulants and bio-fertilizer this year, all for domestic agriculture.?The output of the new plants is expected to curb imports by up to 15 percent, according to company officials.?

Cuba has made systematic efforts to replace chemical products in agriculture with domestically-made biotech products.

Labiofam?s bio-plaguicides, such as Griselesf, Bactivec, Fitomas and Biorat, are also being used and manufactured in Brazil, Nicaragua, Ghana and Tanzania.
